Nixon Driving Academy is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all students, including children and young people under 18 years of age.

As a solo driving instructor, we recognise the unique responsibility involved in one-on-one driver training. We take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every student.

We have zero tolerance for child abuse, harm, or exploitation.

We are committed to:

  • Acting in the best interests of all students at all times
  • Maintaining strict professional boundaries
  • Providing a safe learning environment within all lessons
  • Encouraging students to speak up if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable
  • Responding immediately to any concerns or complaints
  • Complying with all relevant Queensland child safety laws and standards

Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy – Nixon Driving Academy

Purpose
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students under 18 participating in driving lessons.

Scope
Applies to the sole instructor operating under Nixon Driving Academy.

Understanding Risk
Driving lessons involve:

  • One-on-one instruction
  • Close proximity in a vehicle
  • Limited external supervision

These risks are actively managed through clear procedures and boundaries.

Safety Measures

  • Lessons are conducted in a clearly identifiable vehicle
  • Lesson details (time, pickup, drop-off) are recorded
  • Parents/guardians may attend lessons upon request
  • No unscheduled or unexplained route changes

Professional Boundaries

  • No physical contact unless required for safety
  • No personal relationships outside lessons
  • No private or secret communication

Blue Card Requirement

  • The instructor holds a valid Queensland Blue Card (Working With Children Check)

Communication with Minors

  • Communication is kept professional and, where appropriate, includes parents/guardians
  • No use of personal or informal communication channels outside business purposes

Reporting

  • Any concern, complaint, or incident is documented and acted upon immediately
  • Matters involving risk of harm are reported to appropriate authorities as required

Review

  • This policy is reviewed annually and updated in line with legislation

As the instructor, I commit to:

Always:

  • Maintain a professional instructor–student relationship
  • Treat all students with respect and patience
  • Provide clear, safe driving instruction
  • Act in the student’s best interests

Never:

  • Engage in inappropriate or personal conversations
  • Use offensive, sexualised, or discriminatory language
  • Initiate unnecessary physical contact
  • Transport students outside of scheduled lessons
  • Take students to private or inappropriate locations

In-Vehicle Conduct

  • Lessons occur in a controlled and safe environment
  • Students are not taken to isolated or unsafe areas

Communication

  • All communication is for lesson-related purposes only
  • Parents/guardians are included where appropriate

Accountability

  • Any breach of this code is taken seriously and may result in reporting to authorities

Process

  1. Complaint acknowledged within 2 business days

  3. Investigation conducted fairly and confidentially
  4. Appropriate action taken
  5. Outcome communicated where possible
